67. Tour de Pologne starts tomorrow

Tour de Pologne was held first time in 1928. Since 1952 is organised annualy. Until the early 1993 was open for amateur cyclists only. Since 2005 the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) made TdP part of the UCI ProTour. Since 2009 it become the part of the UCI World Ranking calendar. It's one of the best sport events in Poland.

For 7 days the page about goalkeepers is going to change into a page about cyclist.

Happy because my favorite cyclist, Marek Rutkiewicz, is going to be the leader of the Polish national team. A year ago he was 6th in General classification and won Mountains classification.

The route consists of 7 stages and the main part of the race is going to take place on Silesia.

1. 1st August - Sochaczew to Warsaw, 175.1 km (108.8 mi)
2. 2nd August - Rawa Mazowiecka to Dąbrowa Górnicza, 240.0 km (149.1 mi)

'It was 1800 days of cold, wind and rain", says Artur Boruc

"It was 1800 days of cold, wind and rain", said Artur Boruc, when asked about his time at Celtic Glasgow by Scottish media. "But seriously, it was a great time".

"Celtic and its fan will always stay close to my heart. This club is a part of me now, just like my family and my fiancée. It was a great honor to play for Celtic."

"I think that playing for Fiorentina is a chance for me, to develop my skills. I came here to be the goalkeeper, I have no indention of declaring I will do this or that, blah, blah, blah. It's easy to give promises. Instead of talking, I prefer playing. The quality of my performance should speak for itself.

"Whoever comes, he better know that he'll be my second goalkeeper", says Frey

Monica08 found an interesting article at http://www.tuttosport.com/ page about Sebastian Frey and his attitude to his club plans to sign a new goalkeeper. He is seems to be almost offended by the fact the Fiorentina hired Boruc. Below is her translation of this news.

According to Tuttosport.it July 21 2010.

Frey has been the indisputable #1 goalkeeper at Fiorentina since 2005. So why in the world did Fiorentina on June 12 2010 bother to go look for other top goalkeepers abroad??

In short, once Frey knew that Fiorentina was looking for another top goalkeeper he "complained" to the media. Fiorentina didn't like it and fined him! Fiorentina did it to provide Frey with more challenges and motivation (stimuli in Italian) but apparently Frey took Boruc' signing personally.

Frey's quote:
12 June - "My future, I still see it at Firenze. I am doing very well here. I have 3 more years left in my contract. Even if my [Fiorentina] sporting director is looking for other goalkeepers, I will stay here. I think I showed what I'm worth all these years and my love for the shirt. I don't understand how can one search for another goalkeeper when one has Frey as the #1goalkeeper [titolare]. The money will have to be spent in another manner. All these rumors have surprised me. In any case, whoever [new goalkeeper signing] comes, he better know that he'll be my second [goalkeeper] because I still have lots of willingness to play. I am convinced that I'm still important for my club [Fiorentina].

Meanwhile today the new Fiorentina manager was presented and he said "There is still time to decide. They are two great goalkeepers, it will be up to them.". Source: http://www.tuttosport.com.

Boruc of Frey? Who is going to win this competition?

Daniel Fernandes signed a contract with Panathinaikos

Daniel Fernandes went on a one-year loan to Greek League Champion Panathinaikos F.C.

His impressive performance in the second half of the previous season in Iraklis brought the attenction of several clubs, including Olympiacos and Braga.

It is reported that Portuguese club was interested in bringing the Portuguese goalkeeper as a replacement for Eduardo, who signed the contract with Genoa. However, Fernandes was already in advanced negotations with Panathinaikos.

Playing in Greek league is nothing new for Daniel. Save for a half of season spent in Iraklis, he played for six years for PAOK.

Candian-born Portuguese goalkeeper will have to compete for the place in the goal with Alexandros Tzorvas, no. 1 of the Greek team at the World Cup.

Rui Patricio video

Found this video when I was looking for a highlights with Rui Patricio's goal. It's nice to watch.

Sporting Lisbon - FC Twente 1-1 29 July 2009 Rui Patricio's goal video

Monica 08 told me about Rui Patricio scoring a goal in the last minutes of the game. Found the video of this situation.

In the second leg match Twente scored the opening goal at the very beginning of the match. Sporting was not able to score the equalizer until the goalkeeper Rui Patricio headed on goal from a corner in the added time. The ball bounced from defender Peter Wisgerhof and fell into the net past goalkeeper Mihaylov.

Back then that goal guaranted Portuguese team advance to fourth preliminary round of the Champions League.

World Cup 2010: Netherlands vs Spain 0-1 11 July, Maarten Stekelenburg photos of the game

Stekelburg did fine in the final. I think he was the best player of the Netherlands team. He made 5 saves in the game.

Lech Poznań - Inter Baku (9) 0-1 (8) Kotorowski photos of the match

Kotorowski scored the final penalty himself...

...and saved Giorgi Lomaia's shots. In the penalty shoot-out Lomaia saved 2 penalties, Kotorowski 3.

Lech Poznań - Inter Baku 0 (9) - 1 (8), Krzysztof Kotorowski saved 3 penalties in penalty shoot-out

Polish Champion Lech Poznań made through into the third qualifing round to Champions League after 22-penalty shoot-out.

Lech Poznań win the first leg 1-0 but after the poor performance on home soil lost 0-1. It came to a tie and in the result the penalty shoot-out.

Goalkeeper Krzysztof Kotorowski saved Lech Poznań from an ashaming defeat with Inter Baku. He saved three penalties in total, and scored the final one himself.

It's nice that he had his moment of glory. He plays for the club since 2004 and has his ups and downs including being reduced to a second choice goalkeeper.

Lech Poznań is going to play with Sparta Praha in the next round.

Watch the video of the penalty shoot-out.
