Postgame interview with Eduardo - 'We deserved more than one goal'

An interview with Eduardo after Portugal - Norway game.

"Taking into consideration how offensive had been playing I think we deserved more than one goal, but I'm happy with the victory. When the clean sheet is kept, we are more close to a victory and the team gets confidence. We showed it today. We had good defense and the attack created many situations to score. We had known that they were good when it come to set pieces. Fortunately we scored the goal we had needed. The result is fair. We could have scored more, but the victory was the most important."

Are you satisfied with your individual performance?

"It was the most important to win. When we didn't lost goals and fulfilled our work well, it was obvious we were satisfied and happy."

What about your future in Genoa? Are going to stay in the club?

"Yes, I still have two more years of the contract. I think I'm not going to move on earlier. But you never know if something doesn't change when it comes to professional terms. I feel good here, people treat me good, I hope to repay".

Serie A: Genoa - Lazio 0:0, 6 January 2011 video highlights

Video highlights of Seria A Genoa - Lazio game. Great saves of Lazio's goalkeeper Fernando Muslera! A lucky ones too. Eduardo was also playing in that game.

Serie A; Genoa - Juventus 0-2 21 Nov 2010; Eduardo in Serie A, photos

Watched Genoa - Juventus game yesterday. Juve didn't give Genoa a chance, was a much better team on the pitch. Unfortunately after this match Eduardo has a howler on his account. In 18' he made an attempt to save Claudio Marchisio's shot, which deflected off Genoa's defender. It was so unfortunate that the ball he pushed away came back off the post, deflected from him and came into the goal.

In the first half Juve did score also a second goal. The ball went on the far post, Eduardo didn't reach the ball.

He made 3 saves in total. Two of them in the second half were quite important and it were practically one to one situations.

Portugal - Spain 4-0, 17 November 2010 video

Video highlights of the friendly match Portugal - Spain. Amazin game. Poor Casillas was just helpless when Portugal kept attacking and attacking.

Eduardo played in the first half and Rui Patricio in the second. They didn't had too much work to do.

Iniesta's shot, 10', video.

The shot was off target, went on the right side of the portuguese goal. Eduardo didn't even touch the ball, but at least he is present in this highlights so I put it here as well.

Who saw that coming?

Poland won with Ivory Coast 3-1! Robert Lewandowski scored two times, and Obraniak shot an amazing goal from a free kick. Łukasz Fabiański had a lot of work, as the defense was as leaky as usual.

Watching friendly Portugal - Spain right now. Portugal is leading the game 1-0! Martins scored a goal in 45'. A lot is happening on the pitch. Both Casillas and Eduardo are not left without an occupation.

The second half has just started. Rui Patricio changed Eduardo.

Edit: 2:0! Postiga scores in 49'.

Edit 2: 3:0! Beautiful action under Casillas's goal and Postiga scores again. Why the match at the World Cup 2010 couldn't look like that?!

Edit 3: Hugo Almeida scores in 90'+4. A perfect ending!

Friendly games tomorrow

Two important friendly games tomorrow. Firstly, Portugal is going to face Spain. Does Selecção has a chance to win? They have a new coach, they improved they effectiveness in scoring, but the defense didn't seem to be as tight as it used to be during the World Cup.

In the last game Eduardo didn't seem to be as sharp as during the tournament, when he allowed only 1 goal and made 19 saves in four games. Will keep my fingers crossed for him tomorrow. He will need all his skills to try to stop Spain!

The second game I'm going to watch, at least partially, is Poland - Ivory Coast. Well, Poland need to win after eight months without a single victory, but I don't think it's going to happen tomorrow. Even without Drogba, Ivory Coast is a very good team.

Łukasz Fabiański is back to the team. His last performances in Arsenal's games were good. Watched Everton - Arsenal game last Sunday. He helped the team to keep the advantageous result. Everton tried to catch up with Arsenal's 0-2 lead, but eventually they manage to score only one goal, and it came too late. Hope tomorrow Fabiański also will do well, this time playing for the national team.

Portugal vs Denmark 3-1!

It's 60th minute of the game and Portugal is leading the game 2:0 after two goals of Nani scored in three minutes span.

So far Portugal has been dominating on the pitch, plays fast, effective and efficient at last.

There was one change on Denmark side, Thomas Sorensen was replaced by Anders Lindegaar, who made already at least two fine saves.

Eduardo is also not without an occupation in this game and stays focused.

As we all now winning 2:0 against Denmark doesn't guarantee Portugal is not going to lost 2:3 so better to keep fingers crossed till the final whistle.

Edit: Portugal finally registered their first win in the European Championship 2012 qualification campaing. They controlled the game and won 3-1 with Denmark.

All goals were scored by Portuguese as Ricardo Carvalho scored an own goal in the second half. Fortunately Ronaldo added thrid goal in the final minutes of the goal.

Paulo Bento achieved what Carlos Queiroz could not, a win. Hope that is how Portugal matches are going to look like now. Except for scoring own goals of course.

Picspam of the game later.

It started bad

I didn't imagine that the Euro 2012 qualifiers were going to start so bad for Portugal. A draw with Cyprus and an unfortunate defeat in the second game with Norway. Instead of earning six point Portugal has merely one.

What is worse, Eduardo is not without a fault. It's like a nightmare, to see a hero of World Cup out of shape, commiting mistakes, a costly ones. Of course putting the whole blame on a goalkeeper would be a great unjustice. I'm just worried about him and about Portugal.

And I can't imagine that Portugal, my favorite team, may miss Euro hosted by Ukraine and Poland, my country.

Euro 2012 qualifiers: post-game interview with Eduardo

Interview with Eduardo after Portugal - Cyprus game. Quoted after PortuGOAL.net:

“We have to admit our mistakes and lift our heads. There are more games ahead and we have to learn from our mistakes. During the World Cup things went well at the back, but today they didn’t. We’re going to Norway to win. It will be an important game for us. We now have extra responsibility after dropping points at home.”

Read the interviews with other players at PortuGOAL.net.

Euro 2012 qualifier: Portugal - Cyprus 4-4, 3 Sep 2010, video highlights

Hugo Almeida, Raul Meireles, Danny and Manuel Fernandes scored. It's a good news.

Bad news is that three times the defenders left Eduardo alone with Cyprus players. Nevertheless I would expect that he could do something in at least one of those situation... But it seemed as if he was not in the best shape.

In the last minutes - a catasthrope... Cyprus player shots on the goal, Eduardo makes a save, but the ball falls only a few meters from him, in the box. A header of Andreas Avraam, who didn't miss the opportunity, and the ball lands in the net. It's 4-4, Portugal started its first qualifier from a draw with theoretically the weakest of the opponents in their group.

Antonis Georgallides, the Cyprus's goalkeeper, made 7 saves. Some can be seen in the video highlights. Only 3 saves on Eduardo's account. Hope is going to do better in Norway - Portugal game.

Eduardo, interview from PortuGoal.net

Found a short interview with Eduardo, posted at 2th of September at PortuGOAL.net page.

“Obviously we would have preferred everything to be calmer, but we are confident and we will do everything to win the first games. We have to follow our leader (Oliveira) and not think about anything else.”

“The aim is to make a winning start and avoid the repetition of past mistakes. What happened in the last qualification campaign cannot be allowed to happen again. There are a lot of new faces, it’s true. But the ambition is the same. We have quality and a huge desire to do good things.”

Source: PortuGOAL.net

Considering how Portugal did start the qualifiers, with 4-4 draw in a game against Cyprus, which for sure is not a team from the top, one can have only bad feelings. Portugal just did what they should not did - they started the qualifiers with repetiting all the past mistakes...

Eduardo - penalty defense in Belenenses vs. Sporting Braga 1-3, 8 Feb 2010

Eduardo had to face penalty in the Sporting Braga match against Belenenses, in the 18th round of Liga Sagres (2009/2010 season). He defended it in an excellent way. At sapo.pt it was named Defesa da jornada - the (best) defense of the round.

Udinese - Genoa 1-0 28 Aug 2010 video highlights

So far Eduardo is doing fine in Serie A. In Udinese - Genoa game he performed a lot of amazing saves.

Video reposed after Italian Soccer Serie A page.

Eduardo made 6 saves in the game and kept the clean sheet. Samir Handanovic made 3 saves and allowed 1 goal.

World Cup 2010 goalkeeper saves video

YT user LCTrussell1992 posted an excellent video with some of World Cup 2010 best goalkeeper's saves.

Some of my favorites are there, like Muslera's, Villar's and Casillas's penalty saves, Eduardo's performance in Spain - Portugal game and Benaglio's in Spain - Switzerland game.

Link to the video: here.

Goalkeepers featured in the video: Diego Benaglio (Switzerland), Iker Casillas (Spain), Eduardo (Portugal), Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria), Tim Howard (USA), David James (England), Moeneeb Josephs (South Africa), Vincent Jung Sung-Ryong (South Korea), Richard Kingson (Ghana), Itumeleng Khune (South Africa), Hugo Lloris (France), Ján Mucha (Slovakia), Fernando Muslera (Uruguay), Manuel Neuer (Germany), Óscar Pérez (Mexico), Mark Schwarzer (Australia), Maarten Stekelenburg (The Netherlands), Mark Paston (New Zealand), Alexandros Tzorvas (Greece), Justo Villar (Paraguay).

The one I feel the lack the most is M'Bohli. He stopped USA team for 90' minutes in Algeria - USA game. But everything can't be put in one video.

Goalkeepers of the World Cup 2010 video slideshow

Wanted to put a video about World Cup goalkeepers, but I didn't have enough time to do this, so I decided to make just a slideshow with some favorite photos.

Music: K'naan "Waving flag".

Sadly the quality is not the best...
